The Collaboratives
Shared Vision
The Collaboratives' vision is to develop and sustain a seamless network of community partners throughout the District of Columbia that work to build strong families and supportive communities in which children, youth and adults can safely and productively reside and thrive.
Shared Principles
Commitment to children
We are committed to the safety of children, to their right to be free from abuse and neglect, and to their right to achieve their full potential as members of our community.
Respect for families
We believe that despite the challenges they often face, families and children are innately resilient and possess strengths which provide the foundation for change. When their strengths are recognized and affirmed, families can be full partners as they work to develop new skills and capacities.
Reliance on community
We honor the strengths of the communities in which we work. It is our goal to involve community residents in the design, development and oversight of services to families. We want also to build the capacity of our partner agencies so that they can better serve families and children.
High quality, flexible and responsive services
We are committed to high quality services that produce positive outcomes. Front line workers have access to flexible resources that can be responsive to the unique needs of each family.
Accountability
We are committed to defining the results expected from our services and to being accountable for those outcomes. All Collaborative operations should be transparent to our partners and to the community.
There are currently seven Collaboratives operating in all quadrants of the District. Each Collaborative is an independent 501c3 led by individual community-based boards of directors. Each Collaborative draws upon the unique capabilities and services found within its network of neighborhood providers to assist at risk children and families.
Columbia Heights/Shaw Family Support Collaborative - works to support children, youth and families in northwest Washington, DC. The Collaborative's target area primarily serves Ward 1 residents.
East River Family Strengthening Collaborative - pursues a holistic strategy to improve the economic, educational and social conditions of children and families living east of the Anacostia River. The Collaborative's target area primarily serves Ward 7 residents.
Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative - works from a strengths-based focus and through the service efforts of residents and other community stakeholders to ensure that the Edgwood/Brookland community is healthy and thriving for all of its members. The Collaborative's target area primarily serves Ward 5 residents.
Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative - works to create a healthy socioeconomic environment through which each child and family in the Far Southeast community has opportunities to achieve maximum potential and lead a productive life. The Collaborative's target area primarily serves Ward 8 residents.
Georgia Avenue/Rock Creek East Family Support Collaborative - works to bring people and organizations together to build healthier, stronger families and neighborhoods along the Georgia Avenue corridor and east of Rock Creek Park. The Collaborative's target area primarily serves residents of Ward 4.
North Capitol Collaborative, Inc. - works to enhance the capacity of the North Capitol community to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect through the development of formal and informal support systems. The Collaborative's target area primarily serves Ward 1 residents.
South Washington/West of the River Family Strengthening Collaborative - works to coordinate the participation of residents, government, community and private sector resources in an effort to reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect and to eradicate the social ills that beset families and community in South Washington. The Collaborative's target area primarily serves residents of Ward 5.
